HSU’S JACKSON, GIPSON, SORENSEN EARN TOP GAC HONORS

Henderson State dominated the Great American Conference All-Conference softball team with the Reddies landing a record eight players on the list, including four major awards.

Coach Beth Jackson was named GAC Coach of the Year, while Sarah Gipson earned Player of the Year honors, and Michelle Sorensen being named Pitcher and Freshman of the Year.

Jackson has led HSU to its first-ever conference championship with the Reddies having a 37-11 record. Henderson State is also ranked No. 4 in the latest NCAA Central Region rankings.

Gipson leads HSU offensively and ranks fourth in the GAC with a .438 average. The senior from Grand Saline, Texas is tops in the GAC in RBI (59) and in hits (71).

A four-time All GAC pick, Gipson has hit safely in 37 of 48 games and has reached base safely in 44 of 48 games

Gipson ranks second in HSU history in career hits with 229 and also ranks second in RBI with 154.

Sorensen, who is one of 25 finalists for NFCA Freshman of the Year, leads the GAC in pitching wins (16), ERA (2.03) and opponent batting average at .182.

The freshman from Sherwood, Ark. earned GAC Pitcher of the Week honors three times this season.

Joining Gipson and Sorensen on the GAC First Team are catcher Keirsten Seahorn and designated player Ashlyn White.

Seahorn enters the GAC Tournament hitting .386 while having 46 RBI and 8 home runs on the year.

The sophomore from Gilmer, Texas earned GAC Player of the Week on March 17 after going 7-for-14 in a series against Southwestern Oklahoma. Seahorn had a double, four runs batted in and scored seven runs in the four-game series against the Bulldogs.

White, who also earned second-team All-GAC as a pitcher, has a .360 average along with a .619 slugging percent having 8 doubles and 8 home runs.

The sophomore from Longview, Texas has been named GAC Player of the Week twice and Pitcher of the Week once .

In the circle, White has a 12-3 record with a 2.54 ERA. She has allowed just nine walks in 107.1 innings.

Also earning second-team honors are second baseman Tricia Hock and outfielder Amy Halter.

Hock hit .369 during the regular-season with five home runs, 29 RBI and a team best 45 runs score.

Halter is batting .322 with 43 runs scored and ranks second in the GAC in stolen bases with 25.

Third baseman Morgan South and outfielder Taylor Daniels earned honorable mention honors.

South has totaled 11 doubles and 29 RBI to go along with a .289 average, while Daniels is hitting .379 with five home runs and 23 RBI.

Henderson State opens GAC Tournament play on Thursday in Bentonville when the Reddies take on Southern Arkansas at 2 p.m.
