The late Bill Ross Montgomery played football and ran track from 1947 to 1951. An All-State and All-AIC selection, Montgomery also was an AIC champion in the 100 and 220-yard dash. He holds a record for the longest touchdown run of 99 yards against Arkansas State. Montgomery also helped lead the football Reddies to the 1950 AIC championship. Montgomery earned his degree in physical education and a minor in social studies. He was a 1st Lieutenant in the United States Army and served in Korea. Montgomery was awarded the Bronze Medal. He also was an aviator until 2001
