Coak Matthews is one of the most decorated coaches in Henderson State history. He took over the Red Wave swimming program in 1982 and continues to make young swimmers champions. During the past 25 years, Matthews has won 23 conference championships, and has been named Conference Swimming Coach of the Year 13 times. After graduating from the University of Arkansas in 1977, Matthews began coaching age-group teams in the Houston area before becoming a Reddie in 1982. During his career, he has been named National Swimming Coach of the Year and was inducted into the Arkansas Swimming Hall of Fame in 1995.
