Gary Weed played football and baseball at Henderson State from 1957 to 1960. A tight end for the Reddies, Weed was a First-Team All-AIC selection in 1958 and 1959 in football. Weed played for the legendary coach Duke Wells and was the team captain in 1959 helping lead the Reddies to the AIC championship. A two-year letterman on the Reddie baseball team, Weed was captain of the 1958 team that won the AIC title. Weed was Student Body President in 1959, was named Mr. Henderson and was a member of Who’s Who in American Colleges and Universities. After graduation, Weed went on to teach and coach for over 30 years, spending the first five years in Arkansas, then moving to West Palm Beach, Florida.
