Jay Brewer was a two-time All-AIC selection and two-time NAIA All-District 17 honoree for the Reddies in golf in 1989 and 1990. During his time at Henderson, Brewer was part of the Reddies' AIC Championship and NAIA District 17 Championship teams both seasons and helped the Reddies advance to the NAIA National Championships in 1989, where they finished tied for 14th nationally. After graduation, Brewer served as the golf pro at Texarkana Golf Club and went on to work as the head golf coach at Texas High School. At Texas High, Brewer enjoyed an illustrious coaching career and won over 20 district championships between the men's and women's teams. Brewer passed away on June 5, 2019, at the age of 51. The Jay Brewer Memorial Classic golf tournament is played every fall at the Texarkana Country Club in his honor.
