Fells participated in football from 1982-85. He was an All-AIC in 1984 and 1985, NAIA All-District in 1985, NAIA All-American in 1985, and a leading rusher in the AIC in 1985. Fells held the Henderson single-season rushing record with 1,472 yards in 1985 and the Henderson single-season scoring record with 102 points in 1985. He also ranks in the 10 all-time in total offense and scoring in the AIC, as well as top five in all-time single-season rushing in AIC history. He was drafted in 11th round by the Washington Redskins.
