Rand Chappell was Henderson State’s head men’s basketball coach from 1998 to 2003. During Chappell’s illustrious tenure at the head of the program in Arkadelphia, the Reddies compiled an unprecedented record of 120-40 in five seasons. Chappell guided Henderson to four Gulf South Conference Tournament titles, three Gulf South West Division Championships, five NCAA Regional appearances and the 1999 and 2001 NCAA South Regional Finals. During his run with the Reddies, Chappell coached six All-Americans and two Gulf South Conference Players of the Year. In five seasons, he never failed to win 20 or more games and tied the school record with 30 victories in 2003. He was named NABC South Region Coach of the Year in 1999 and is second all-time at Henderson in wins (120) and winning percentage (.750).
