Goodwin participated in football and track. He earned Honorable Mention All-AIC in football in 1963, and was team captain in football in 1965. He was All-AIC in 1965 in football on both offense and defense. Goodwin was an NAIA All-American selection in 1965. He also participated on the track team and was an AIC discus champion in 1964, 1965 and 1966. He set the AIC record for the discus in 1965. In 1966, he was selected as the football team’s Most Valuable Player and was a member of the AIC All-Decade Team as chosen by Dave Campbell’s Arkansas Football Magazine. Goodwin was inducted into the Arkansas Sports Hall of Fame in 2007
