Lady Reddies Lose to Arkansas Tech at Home

Arkansas Tech University, the Great American Conference's top team in the standings, visited the Duke Wells Center on Thursday night and left with their unblemished conference record intact by virtue of a 3-0 sweep (25-23, 25-21, 25-13) over Henderson State University.

Despite being swept, the Lady Reddies (4-18, 0-10 GAC) gave the Golden Suns (23-3, 10-0 GAC) all they wanted in the opening set. ATU jumped out to a quick 12-4 lead, but HSU's Ty Lindberg and Jessica Moss led a comeback as the duo would account for the next five points in the match to pull the Lady Reddies to within three points, 12-9. In that flurry of scoring, Lindberg had a pair of kills and an assisted block (with Moss), and Moss tallied a kill, a block solo, and an assisted block (with Lindberg).

Down the stretch in the first set, the Lady Reddies forced four ties (17-all, 18-all, 19-all, and 20-all). In the end, Tech would hold on for a 25-23 set one win.

The second set was similar to the first with the Lady Reddies matching the stout Golden Suns point-for-point throughout. Early on in that set Tech fell behind, 4-2, but was able to regain a lead that they would not relinquish.

Ahead 2-0 in the match, the Golden Suns turned in their best hitting performance of the night in the closeout set. Fueling their 25-13 third set win was an astounding .688 hitting percentage on the strength of 12 kills on 16 total attacks and only one error.

Lindberg led all hitters with 13 kills and she recorded her ninth double-double of the season as she added a match-high 14 digs. Brooke Walford was the lone setter for the Lady Reddies and the junior dished out 30 assists, tying her season-high.

HSU will travel to Russellville this weekend to take part in the Arkansas Tech Classic. The Lady Reddies are slated to take on the University of Sioux Falls Friday at 3:00 p.m., Lindenwood University Saturday at 9:00 a.m., and Truman State University Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
