Henderson State Falls in Five Sets to Southwestern Oklahoma State

On Saturday afternoon the Henderson State women's volleyball team played to their third straight five-set loss, this time to hands of visiting Southwestern Oklahoma State University, 3-2 (21-25, 27-29, 25-21, 25-14, 15-8).

The Lady Reddies (4-26, 0-14 GAC), in front of a sizable crowd of Lady Reddie volleyball alumni, took control of the match early with a 25-21 win in the opening set and added another set victory with a thrilling 29-27 win in the second set to take a 2-0 advantage in the match.

The Lady Bulldogs (9-14, 5-9 GAC) rallied in a major way picking up wins in the third set, 25-21, and the fourth set, 25-14, to force the fifth and final set.

In the fifth set, the Lady Reddies took an early 3-1 advantage, but saw that lead evaporate as the Lady Bulldogs rattled off a 10-0 run to take a commanding 11-3 lead. A Lady Bulldog service error halted their own run and made the score 11-4. The Lady Bulldogs would hold on for a 15-8 set five win, giving them the come-from-behind victory over the Lady Reddies.

Eight different Lady Reddies recorded at least one kill with sophomore outside hitter Ty Lindberg leading the Lady Reddies with 17 kills. A trio of Lady Reddies tallied double-figure totals in kills. Junior libero Lauren Ray led all defenders with 31 digs. Rookie Regan Large and Lindberg followed Ray with 12 and 14 digs respectively. Setters Paulina Cross and Brooke Walford dished out 19 and 23 assists respectively.

The Lady Reddies will take to the road one final time in 2011 as they travel to Monticello, Ark. to take on Arkansas-Monticello on Tuesday, November 1st. First serve is set for 7:00 p.m.
