Valiant Effort Falls Short at SAU

The Henderson State Volleyball team showed tremendous heart and resiliency on Tuesday night at they pushed Southern Arkansas University to the brink in the first two sets, forcing additional play in those sets, but were unable to get the best of SAU on the evening as the Lady Muleriders (11-9, 5-3 GAC) won the conference match, 3-0 (28-26, 28-26, 25-13).

Only three times previously this season have the Lady Reddies (4-16, 0-8 GAC) been in a set that needed to surpass the 25-point mark to determine a winner, but against SAU, the Lady Reddies played in back-to-back sets that needed the extra scoring to begin the match. In each set, however SAU came out on top 28-26, and the Lady Muleriders took a commanding 2-0 lead in the match heading into the third set.

The Lady Muleriders would take the third set, 25-13, for the match win.

Statistically, the Lady Reddies had several bright spots on the night. Junior middle blocker Candance Redwine had the best hitting night of any Lady Reddies this season as she hit at an impressive clip of .517 on the strength of 16 kills on 29 total attacks and a lone error. The 16 kills was also a season-high for Redwine.

As a team the Lady Reddies ended the night with eight total blocks against Lady Mulerider attacks. It was the second straight match that the Lady Reddies have recorded eight team blocks. Individually, rookie middle blocker Jessica Moss had a career night with four block solos and three block assists as she accounted for five and a half of the team's eight total blocks.

The Lady Reddies will have the weekend off, but will hit the court again on Tuesday, October 11th on the road against Harding. The first serve is set for 7:00 p.m.
