Lady Reddies Split, Sweep Lyon

As part of an overall three-match night in the friendly confines of the Duke Wells Center, the Henderson State Lady Reddies volleyball team was able to overcome a 3-0 loss at the hands of the University of West Alabama in the evening's first match to turnaround and return the favor to Lyon College with a 3-0 win of their own in the nightcap.

In the first match of the night, West Alabama set the tone early against the Lady Reddies as the Tigers darted out to a 25-9 win in the first set. In that set, the Tigers recorded 14 kills on 27 total attacks for a .444 hitting percentage, while the Lady Reddies were limited to only four kills.

The Tigers would register 14 kills again in the second set, but saw their hitting percentage significantly drop to .195 after six attack errors and 41 total attacks. Conversely, the Lady Reddie attack improved from the first set as they collected nine kills and committed only three attack errors. The improved hitting from HSU was not enough to overcome West Alabama in the second set as the Tigers would hold on for a 25-19 win to take a 2-0 match lead.

HSU would rally in a major way in the third and final set. Down 24-21 and facing match-point, the Lady Reddies rattled off three straight points to knot the set at 24-all, extending the match. In that set, HSU's offensive attack came alive sending home 16 kills on 44 total attacks and committing only three attack errors for a hitting percentage of .295 for the set. The Tigers would be able to withstand the furious rally by the Lady Reddies and eventually secured the set, 26-24, giving them the match victory 3-0.

Junior Candance Redwine was the most consistent hitter against West Alabama hitting at a clip of .400 with seven kills on 15 total attacks. Sophomore Ty Lindberg recorded a double-double with 13 kills and 10 digs. Junior transfer Brooke Walford paced the offensive attack with 18 assists. Seven different Lady Reddies recorded a dig with junior Libero Lauren Ray leading the team with 13 digs.

Soon after the match, the Tigers returned to the court to take on Lyon College, allowing the Lady Reddies to rest and regroup.

Rested, the Lady Reddies took the opening set with relative ease 25-14. For HSU, 12 kills on 33 total attacks and seven errors (.152) was more than enough offensive attack as the Lady Scots turned in a negative hitting percentage recording four kills on 29 total attacks while committing six attack errors.

In the 25-17 second set win, HSU turned in one of their best hitting performances of the year. Hammering home 17 kills on 32 total attacks with only three attacking errors gave the Lady Reddies an impressive .438 hitting percentage.

The Lady Reddies held off the Lady Scots in the third set, 25-23, to earn their second 3-0 match win of the season.

Individually, much was the same for the Lady Reddies in the second match.
Walford added 24 assists to her stat sheet, Lindberg had a match-high 14 kills, and Ray came up with 12 digs.

Tomorrow night, the Lady Reddies will hit the road to take on Division-I opponent Arkansas-Pine Bluff. The opening serve is set for 6:00 p.m.
