Volleyball Knocks off Division-I Arkansas-Pine Bluff in Five Sets

On the heels of a dominant 3-0 win the night previous against Lyon College, the Henderson State Volleyball team followed it up with a five-set road win over Division-I Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Tuesday night.

The Lady Reddies (4-10, 0-2 GAC) jumped out early with a 25-21 win in the opening set. UAPB rallied back in the second set, 25-23, to even the match at 1-1. The third set was the most dominant for the Lady Reddies as they committed only one attacking error while hammering home 13 kills on 28 total attacks to give them a hitting percentage of .429 as they cruised to a 25-15 third set win. The Lady Lions would bounce back and win the fourth set, 25-17, setting up the decisive fifth set.

Ahead by a point, 11-10, the Lady Reddies strung together four unanswered points to close out the set and match.In that set, the Lady Lions recorded their worst hitting performance of the night as they collected only two kills on 26 total attacks, and committed five attack errors to give them a -.115 hitting percentage.

Sophomore outside hitter Ty Lindberg led all hitters with 18 kills in the match. Freshmen Jessica Moss and Sarah Williams along with junior Candance Redwine recorded eight kills each respectively.

Three different Lady Reddies, including Lindberg, recorded double-digit defensive digs. Lindberg tallied 17 digs and junior Sara Gonzalez added 13 digs of her own, while classmate Lauren Ray led the team with 18 digs. Ray also led the team with five service aces in the match.

The Lady Reddies are back in action this Friday, September 23rd in search of their first conference win of the season as they play host to GAC opponent Southeastern Oklahoma State. The match, which is also Public School Night at the Duke Wells Center, is set to begin at 6:00 p.m.
