Lady Reddies Stumble at East Central Oklahoma

With the month of October a day away, the Henderson State Volleyball team looked to end the month of September on a high note as they took on East Central University (Okla.) on Friday night in search of their first conference win as a member of the newly-formed Great American Conference (GAC). However, the Lady Reddies (4-13, 0-5 GAC) came up short losing to ECU 3-0 (25-23, 25-17, 25-13) in Ada, Okla.

The opening set was the closest of the three with the score being tied six times and the lead having changed hands three times. In that set, the Lady Reddies held a one-point lead late, 23-22. After tying the set at 23-all, ECU benefited from consecutive errors by HSU to win the set.

ECU used the momentum of the first set into the second set in a big way as they sprinted out to a 7-1 lead early on before eventually winning 25-17. The Lady Tigers (6-11, 3-3 GAC) led wire-to-wire in the second set.

The third set was back-and-forth early with four ties and three lead changes through the first 11 combined points of the set. After breaking a five-all tie, the Lady Tigers went on an 11-2 run en route to comfortable 25-13 set win.

Ty Lindberg led the Lady Reddie attack with a match-high 14 kills. Starting Libero Lauren Ray paced the defense with 11 digs, and setter Brooke Walford led the team with 15 assists.

The Lady Reddies are back in action on Saturday afternoon as they remain in Oklahoma and are set to take on Southwestern Oklahoma State starting at 1:00 p.m.
