HSU Volleyball Falters against SWOSU; Lose 3-1

Lindberg Recorded her 5th double-double of the year with 15 kills and 21 digs
ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – The Henderson State women's volleyball team donned brand new uniforms on Friday night against Southwestern Oklahoma State University, and the new-look for Henderson sparked a dominant 25-11 victory in the opening set. The momentum from the dominant set would not carry over for HSU, however, as SWOSU came back to take the next three sets by scores of 25-19, 25-21, and 25-19 en route to a 3-1 match win on the road at the Duke Wells Center.

In that opening set, the Lady Reddies (4-17, 0-7 GAC) raced out to a 12-4 lead to establish command of the set. The Lady Reddies would eventually extend their lead to double-digits with a 16-6 advantage. From there, HSU would go on a 9-5 run to close out the set and earn the 25-11 win. Statistically in the set, the Lady Reddies benefited from 11 SWOSU attack errors while HSU committed just one attack error.

After the offensive attack struggles in the first set, the Lady Bulldogs (6-16, 4-2 GAC) excelled on the offensive end in the next three sets and were particularly good in the second and third sets. In the second set, SWOSU racked up 19 kills and committed only six errors. In the third set, the Lady Bulldogs would tally 16 kills and commit just three errors. The Lady Reddies would only better the Lady Bulldogs in the third set as HSU totaled 17 kills.

Leading the Lady Reddies offensively was junior outside hitter Ty Lindberg as she hammered home 15 kills. Lindberg would record a double-double as she led the team in defensive digs with 21 digs. The double-double by Lindberg is her fifth on the season.

Sarah Williams was just behind Lindberg offensively as she totaled 12 kills and had an attack percentage of .375. Williams was also a force at the net defensively as she was a part of a match-high five block assists in the match. Lauren Ray and Malorie Kelly would also register double-figure digs with Ray compiling 14 and Kelly coming away with 10. Freshman Emily Belz paced the offense with 38 set assists.

The Lady Reddies will remain at home as they are scheduled to take on Northwest Oklahoma State University on Saturday, October 13th. The match is set to start at noon in the Duke Wells Center.
