ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Saturday afternoon marked a historic first in the storied history of Henderson State women's volleyball as they earned their first conference win as a member of the Great American Conference with a three-set sweep over Northwestern Oklahoma State University.
The Lady Reddies (5-16, 1-7 GAC) enjoyed one of their best offensive performances of the season as they totaled a season-high 40 kills for a three-set match against NWOSU. HSU also totaled double-digit kills in each of the three sets for the third time this season; all Henderson wins.
Leading the offensive charge for the Lady Reddies was sophomore middle blocker
Jessica Moss. The Garland, Texas native hammered home a team-high 14 kills on 19 attacks and did not commit an attack error as she turned in an attack percentage of .737. The error-less attack effort by Moss was the second of her season, with the first coming the Lady Reddies' opening match of the year, also a Henderson win.
Ty Lindberg and
Sarah Williams joined Moss in double-digit kills as each recorded an even 10 kills. Williams committed just one error on 22 total attacks for an attack percentage of .409.
Malorie Kelly and
Lauren Ray paced the defense off of the Lady Rangers' (1-19, 0-8 GAC) attacks as Kelly netted 12 digs and Ray finished with 10 digs. Five different Lady Reddies registered block assists in the win with Williams leading the team with her three block assists. Moss, Lindberg, and
Cheyenne Derr each added two block assists.
Newcomer
Emily Belz dished out a match-high 35 assists. It is the third time this season that Belz has reached that total for assists.
The Lady Reddies will look to build on this historic win as they remain at home and will take on cross-street rivals Ouachita Baptist University on Tuesday, October 16th. The match is scheduled to begin at 7:00 pm.
