ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – On Tuesday night in the Duke Wells Center, Henderson State and Ouachita Baptist renewed their bitter cross-street rivalry with this year's volleyball edition of the Battle of the Ravine. Ouachita would go on to collect a three-set sweep over Henderson by scores of 26-24, 25-23, and 25-21.
Despite the implications of the rivalry and the inherent desire to win for both teams, the primary focus of the evening was to raise awareness and support for cancer and breast cancer research. The opening set saw five lead changes and nine tie scores as both teams vied for control of the set. The Lady Reddies (5-18, 1-8 GAC) would take a late lead of 24-21and were serving for the set, but the Lady Tigers (6-14, 3-6 GAC) rallied for three straight points to tie the set at 24-all, and then added two more consecutive points to take the opening set 26-24.
The comeback by OBU in the opening set would fuel them to wins in the second and third sets as they earned the match win, 3-0. In each of the final two sets, the Lady Tigers built early five-points leads that they would not relinquish.
Five different Lady Reddies registered kills in the match with
Ty Lindberg leading the charge with nine kills.
