BOX SCORE
ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Sophomore outside hitter
Sarah Williams turned in a magnificent offensive performance on Saturday afternoon as she totaled a career-high 21 kills to highlight Henderson State's 3-1 win over visiting Southeastern Oklahoma inside the Duke Wells Center.
The Lady Reddies (7-21, 2-10 GAC) jumped out to a dominating lead in the match as they captured the first two sets by scores of 25-21 and 25-21. In those first two sets, the Henderson defense was stout as they helped force 18 attack errors by the Savage Storm (5-25, 3-10 GAC). Offensively, the Lady Reddies were converting on their attack opportunities by hammering 24 kills and committing just seven errors over the first two sets.
Southeastern would fight back from a five-point deficit with a five-point run to knot the third set up at 15-all. From that point until the end of the set, neither team would lead by more than two points. During that stretch, there were four tie scores and five lead changes before the Savage Storm would eventually come away with a 25-23 win to stave off the sweep.
A majority of the fourth and final set would be controlled by the Lady Reddies as they cruised to a 25-18 win to earn the match victory. HSU did fall behind 2-0 early in that set, but an ensuing 4-1 run gave them a lead they would not relinquish.
While Williams' big day was an impressive highlight for HSU, she was not the only Lady Reddie to enjoy a great statistical match against Southeastern.
Ty Lindberg and
Lauren Ray each recorded double-doubles, but did so in different ways. Lindberg collected hers with a 12-kill, 14-dig performance and Ray notched hers with a 48-assit, 23 dig performance. For Lindberg, it is her fourth consecutive double-double and ninth overall. For Ray, it is her third consecutive double-double and her fourth overall.
For Williams, her outstanding day on the offensive attack was bolstered by her three service aces and five defensive digs.
The Lady Reddies will now have one final home match of the regular season as they will play host to Arkansas Tech University on Tuesday, November 6th. The match, which will honor the Lady Reddies' lone senior,
Lauren Ray, is scheduled to start at 7:00 pm in the Duke Wells Center.
