ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – On Tuesday night in the Duke Wells Center, the Henderson State women's volleyball team played with an added focus and purpose against Arkansas Tech as the match also served as Senior Night and the Lady Reddies were set to honor the team's lone senior,
Lauren Ray. A valiant effort was turned in by Henderson, but Arkansas Tech was too much as they took the match in three sets.
It was not an easy three-set victory for the Golden Suns (24-9, 10-3 GAC) by any means as the Lady Reddies (7-22, 2-11 GAC) posed a significant threat in the opening set. In that set, the Lady Reddies took an early lead and at one point, enjoyed a seven-point cushion. The Golden Suns would rally late in the set and knotted things up at 21-all. From there, the Lady Reddies would go on a short 3-1 run and were serving with set-point before the Golden Suns broke that serve and rattled off consecutive points to take the set, 26-24.
After avoiding the loss in opening set, Arkansas Tech would bounce back in the second set with a 25-19 win on the strength of 18 total kills.
The third set remained close in the middle of the action as Henderson trailed Tech by three points, 13-10. From that point, however, the Golden Suns would go on a 13-3 run to close out the set with a 25-14 win.
Sarah Williams led the team with nine kills followed by
Ty Lindberg with seven kills.
Jessica Moss added five kills and had an errorless attack effort. Lindberg led the team with 14 digs and also led in blocks with two total blocks.
