Despite falling victim to Ouachita Baptist for the second time this season on Monday night by a score of 82-69; the Henderson State Women's Basketball team has clinched a spot in the upcoming inaugural Great American Conference Women's Basketball Tournament. It is the first time since the 2006-07 season that the Lady Reddies have advanced to conference post-season play.
Similar to the first meeting at OBU, the Lady Reddies (12-12, 5-9 GAC) got on the board first, but quickly saw the Lady Tigers (16-8, 9-5 GAC) capture the lead. Ouachita was just 12-of-41 (29 percent) from the floor in the first half, but were 15-of-18 from the charity stripe. The Lady Tigers also took an 11-point lead into the locker room.
The Lady Reddies shot 46 percent (13-of-28) from the floor in the second half and were 14-of-17 from the free throw line, but were unable to cut into the Lady Tiger lead. OBU was able to keep the comfortable cushion thanks to shooting 12-of-30 (40 percent) from the floor and being even better at line missing just one of their 18 attempts in the half.
Four Lady Reddies finished the game in double figures. Crystal Harrison and Destiny Smith led the team with 16 points each. Krystal Beachum continued her strong play coming off the bench as she poured in 14 points. Beachum was also productive from the line going 7-of-10. Cheree Freeman rounded out the double-digit scoring with an even 10 points. Harrison also led the team in rebounding with eight.
The Lady Reddies will hit the road for their final regular season road game on Thursday evening as they will travel to Southern Arkansas to take on the Lady Riders. Tip-off for the game is set for 5:30 p.m.
