Strong Second Half Propels Lady Reddies to Win on Senior Day

Playing in their final game at the Duke Wells Center on Saturday afternoon, seniors Cheree Freeman, Crystal Harrison, and Joycelyn Taylor each scored in double figures to lead Henderson State past visiting Harding University by a score of 68-51.

After leading at the break by a point, 25-24, the Lady Reddies' (14-12, 7-9 GAC) offensive attack showed signs of reverting back to their tremendous early-season success. The Lady Reddies trailed a couple of times in the second half, but were never down by more than three points.

50 percent (16-of-32) shooting from the floor, 44 percent (4-of-9) shooting from beyond the arc, and 100 percent (7-of-7) shooting from the free throw line in the second half were the driving forces behind Henderson State out-scoring Harding (16-10, 9-7 GAC), 43-27, and giving the Lady Reddies a 17-point margin of victory, 68-51.

Complimenting their offensive attack was the defensive effort that was put on display by the Lady Reddies. For the game, HSU forced 26 Lady Bison turnovers and came away with 15 steals. The Lady Reddies converted those turnovers into 23 points on their end of court.

Freeman led the team in scoring as she poured in a career-high 25 points on the strength of 11-of-19 shooting. Harrison scored 15 points, and was a perfect 7-of-7 from the free throw line. Taylor was 5-of-10 from the floor and added 12 points.

The win clinched the fifth-seed in the upcoming Great American Conference Women's Basketball Tournament for the Lady Reddies. As the fifth-seed, they will take on the fourth-seed of the tournament in the opening round which will be played on Friday, March 2nd at 8:30 p.m. The tournament will be held in Bartlesville, Okla. and can be followed through the GAC's Tournament Central.
