ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – The Henderson State Volleyball team's annual Spirit Night match brought out several spirited HSU groups to cheer on the Lady Reddies, but the fun-filled night took a hit on Tuesday as the Lady Reddies were swept by visiting Harding University on Don Dyer Court.
The Lady Reddies (2-7, 0-1 GAC) played the Lady Bisons (7-3, 1-0 GAC) close early in each set, but were unable to keep Harding from going on scoring runs in the middle of each set to take control and eventually win the set.
Harding's defense was stout as they held Henderson State to a .080 attack percentage for the match. Helping to make that percentage low were the 51 defensive digs by the Lady Bisons and the 12 attack errors committed by the Lady Reddies.
Harding did not favor much better in terms of hitting as they attacked at a percentage of .212 for the match. One of the big reasons for Harding's struggles hitting was another superb blocking effort by the Lady Reddies at the net. As a team, they registered six total blocks. Sophomore middle blocker Jessica Moss, who is among the Great American Conference leaders in blocks, led the team with four block assists against Harding. Cheyenne Derr, Ty Lindberg, and Sarah Williams also contributed block assists.
The Lady Reddies will take a momentary break from conference play as they will hit the road on Friday, September 14th to take on LeMoyne-Owen College. HSU played LOC in the first match of the season, and the Lady Reddies earned a three-set sweep. First serve for Friday night's match is scheduled for 6:00 pm.
