RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – Great American Conference (GAC) preseason favorites, Arkansas Tech, powered past the Henderson State volleyball team on Thursday night at Tucker Coliseum in three-sets (25-15, 25-18, 25-17).
The Lady Reddies (3-9, 0-3 GAC) were unable to match the offensive prowess that the Golden Suns (10-5, 2-1 GAC) displayed on Thursday night as Arkansas Tech recorded 23 more kills (45-22) and had 14 more attack attempts (111-97) than Henderson in the three-set match.
HSU was able to match the Golden Suns defensively in the block statistic as the two teams each registered six team blocks. The Lady Reddies picked up all their blocks on block assists while Tech was able to come away with two block solos to add to their total.
Sophomore middle blocker
Jessica Moss led the Lady Reddies in kills with seven. Five others netted two or more kills.
Lauren Ray and
Cheyenne Derr paced the defense as Ray and Derr ended with 11 and nine digs respectively.
Sarah Williams' four block assists led the team and Derr was second with three block assists.
The Lady Reddies will remain on the road as they are scheduled to play the University of Arkansas-Monticello on Tuesday, September 25th. The match against UAM is set for a 7:00 pm start.
