ARKADELPHIA, Ark.
– The opening installment of the women's basketball version of the Southern Bancorp Battle of the Ravine went in favor of Ouachita Baptist as the Henderson State women's basketball team was unable to overcome a nine-point halftime deficit en route to a 65-57 loss on Thursday evening at the Bill Vining Arena.

The Lady Reddies (9-7, 4-6 GAC) were plagued on the evening by turnovers and relatively cold shooting. On the night, the Lady Reddies turned the basketball over 21 times and shot 35% (18-of-52) overall from the floor. The Lady Tigers (13-3, 8-2) did not fare much better in both statistical categories as the Lady Tigers turned the basketball over 17 times and shot 39% (22-of-56) overall from the floor.

Henderson scored the game's initial point as Sheay Longstaff made good on one of three attempted free throws at the 18:17 mark of the first half, giving the Lady Reddies a 1-0 lead.

A myriad of turnovers and missed shots by Ouachita to start the game kept the Lady Tigers off the board until Erica Sharp knocked down a jump shot with 17:25 remaining in the game. The Sharp jumper gave the Lady Tigers the only lead they would need as they led the remainder of the contest.

After trailing by nine points at the break, 36-27, the Lady Reddies would trail by as much as 13 points in the second half, but the Lady Reddies also showed how resilient they are as they pulled the game to as close as three points twice.

Krystal Beachum and Shareka Maner led the Lady Reddies in scoring as both scored double figures. Maner would lead the team with 14 points off the bench and Beachum scored 13 points as a starter. Maner also led the Lady Reddies in rebounding as she hauled in 10 boards for a double-double.

The Lady Reddies will return home on Saturday, January 26th as they are set to play host to Arkansas-Monticello. Tip-off for the conference clash is set for 2:00 pm.
