Henderson State converted on just 18 percent from the field in the second-half as Arkansas-Monticello rallied to beat the Reddies 60-52, Saturday at the Duke Wells Center.
After leading 32-24 at halftime, the Reddies managed to make just 5-of-28 field goals in the final 20 minutes and were outrebounded 26 to 11 as UAM outscored
Henderson 36-20.
With the game tied at 42-42 following at
Matt Nicholson layup, the Reddies managed to make just one field goal on 13 attempts the final 11 minutes of the game.
Henderson State, 9-8 overall and 4-7 in the Great American Conference, outrebounded the Boll Weevils in the first half with the help of
Cory Henshall's eight boards. UAM, however, dominated the action underneath in the second-half and ended the game with a 45 to 31 rebounding advantage.
Denzel Lyles led Henderson State with 11 points, while
Andrew Ensley totaled 10. Henshall led the Reddies in rebounding having 11 boards to go along with 4 points.
Brandon Sims and Kori Forge led UAM with 19 points each, while A.J. Calhoun added 9 points and a game-high 16 rebounds.
The Reddies ended the game shooting just 27 percent from the field making just 16-of-59 attempts. Henderson also struggled with its perimeter shooting being successful just three times on 19 tries.
UAM, 11-6 overall and 6-5 in the GAC, shot 44 percent from the field hitting on 21-of-48 shots.
Despite forcing UAM to commit a season high 24 turnovers, Henderson was limited to just 13 points off miscues. UAM forced 11 Reddie miscues which led to seven points.
The Reddies will next travel to Ada, Okla. to take on East Central Oklahoma on Thursday with tipoff set for 7:30 p.m.
