Volleyball Travels To Oklahoma For Two GAC Matches

Henderson State Set To Battle Southwestern and Northwestern Oklahoma State University

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. –
The Henderson State University volleyball team (3-14, 0-6 GAC) will have a tough road ahead of them as they will duel Southwestern Oklahoma State University (7-15, 3-2 GAC) on Friday in Weatherford, Okla. and turn right around to square off against Northwestern Oklahoma State University (2-15, 0-6 GAC) on Saturday in Alva, Okla.
 
Henderson State
After winning back-to-back matches for the first time this season, the streak ended on Tuesday with a 3-0 loss to Arkansas-Monticello.
 
Junior Jessica Moss (Garland, Texas), who is currently the GAC's Defensive Player of the Week, has averaged 2.33 kills in the last three games and .92 blocks per set.
 
In conference play alone, Katrina Goulbourne (Jr., Visalia, Calif.) leads the Reddies with 42 kills. Both Raegan Large (Jr., Montgomery, Texas) and Cheyenne Derr (Sr., Mansfield, Ark.) atop the statistics defensively with 41 and 40 digs, respectively.
 
Taylor Thompson (Jr., Yuba City, Calif.), who is the Reddies lone setter, has posted 126 assists in GAC play, averaging 6.30 per set.
 
HSU averages 1.80 blocks per set, with Moss is the team's leader with .90 blocks per set and Jami Jackson (Jr., Kennett, Mo.) just trailing with .80 per set.
 
Southwestern Oklahoma State University
SOSU is currently on a five-match losing skid, most recently falling in five sets to Oklahoma Baptist on Tuesday. Carly Zak had a season high 25 kills on 68 attempts, to increase her total on the season to 272. Alison Cole has been the most consistent offensively, rocking a .212 attack percentage, while starting in all 22 sets.
 
Cole currently sits at the top of the GAC rankings with 1.13 blocks per set. Overall the team averages 19.58 digs per set in conference play, 3.02 more than Southern Arkansas, who hold the second position.
 
Last Meeting
The Bulldogs lost a set to Henderson State but eventually won 3-1 on Oct. 12, 2012. Sarah Williams (Jr., Conroe, Texas) totaled 12 kills and had an attack percentage of .375. Williams was also a force at the net defensively as she was a part of a match-high five block assists in the match.
 
Northwestern Oklahoma State University
Already meeting their win total from the previous season, Northwestern Oklahoma State University has also found themselves winless in conference play.

Playing in 65 sets, the Rangers are being held to a .162 attack percentage with 11.09 kills per set. Defensively, NWOSU is owns a 1.16 block per set average at the net and 14.83 digs per set in the backcourt.
 
Offensively, Northwestern Oklahoma is paced by Asia Pipkin, holding a 2.43 kills per set average overall and 2.92 in conference play. Pipkin is also the digs leader per set with 3.15 in GAC play.
 
Also shining in the backcourt is Megan Hentschke, who has earned 2.27 digs per set in conference action. At the net, Ayssa Eicher has posted 2.22 kills per set.
 
Last Meeting
The Reddies and Rangers have not met the in the 2013 yet, but HSU swept NWOSU in 2012. In a midday matchup on Oct. 13, Henderson State rolled past their opponent, 25-21, 25-19 and 25-13 for their first ever GAC victory.
 
On her home court, Moss has 14 kills on 19 total attacks with no errors for an attack percentage of .737. Williams also had a stellar performance, adding double-digit kills herself with 10.
