LATE REDDIE RALLY FALLS SHORT IN LOSS TO UAFS

Henderson State's late second half rally fell short as Arkansas-Fort Smith beat the Reddies 84-77, Saturday at the UAFS Classic.

Trailing 61-46 with 12:29 left in the second half, Henderson State fought back to tie the score at 72-72 with just under 4 minutes to play.

Henderson's big run began as Deoirvay Johnson hit the first of three straight 3-point buckets with Kevin Kozan then cutting the deficit to 9 with a long-range jumper. Johnson again busted a trey to cut the UAFS lead to 61-55 with 10:51 left.

After UAFS stretched the lead back to 11, Aaron Harwell scored seven of his nine points over a span of 58 seconds to make the score72-70 with 4:34 remaining.

With 3:55 left in the game, Taylor Smith tied the score at 72-72 with a layup.

The Reddies, however, managed to make just one of six field goal attempts down the stretch as UAFS finished the game on a 12-5 run to give Henderson its first loss of the season.

Henderson State, 3-1 on the year, had balanced scoring with three Reddies scoring in double-
figures led by Johnson's 18 points.

Kozan and Melvin Haynes had 11 points each with both having three 3-pointers.

The Reddies converted on 25-of-58 shots from the field for 43 percent, while UAFS was 30-of-59 for 51 percent.

UAFS outrebounded the Reddies 42 to 30 with Kozan, Smith and Ronald Lawson each having four boards.

Henderson State will begin Great American Conference on Thursday as the Reddies continue their six-game road swing in Durant, Okla.
