Christian Brothers Slip Past Henderson State

Lady Reddies Fall 3-0 To Tough Non-Conference Opponent

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Although the Henderson State University volleyball team (4-21) out blocked the Christian Brother Buccaneers (12-15), HSU earned another loss in the 2013 season with a 3-0 sweep in the Canale Arena.

CBU's strong attack powered past HSU outhitting the Lady Reddies, .386 to .089. Junior Lindsey Calabrese (San Jose, Calif.) was HSU's rock defensively, adding a team-high nine digs in the match.

The offense was held to 17 kills, as Cheyenne Derr (Mansfield, Ark.), Katrina Goulbourne (Jr., Visalia, Calif.) and Jami Jackson (Kennett, Mo.) all added four kills apiece.

Freshman Jessie Jacoby (Gilmer, Texas), along with Jessica Moss (Jr., Garfield, Texas) and Jackson added two block assists, as HSU's highlight of the game was out blocking the Lady Bucs, 5.0 to 3.0.

The Lady Bucs set the tone early, scoring 10 straight points to turn a 6-5 edge into a double-digit lead in the first set, eventually easily rolling to a 25-13 win. HSU saw a slight lead early on as they tallied the first two points. CBU rallied back and slaughtered HSU in set two, 25-14.

Henderson State kept the match closer as it reached the midway point only down a few points, but Christian Brothers scored seven of the last eight points to put it away with a 25-17 win to clinch the match.

HSU's next action will be on Saturday as the Lady Reddies stay on the road to partake in a Great Conference matchup against Southeastern Oklahoma State University in Durant, Okla. The match is set to begin at 2 p.m. on Nov. 9.
