Volleyball Plays Midweek Match Against TAMU-Commerce

Henderson State Looks To Rebound Against Lions

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – The Henderson State University volleyball team (1-7 overall, 0-1 GAC ) will travel to Commerce, Texas to face the Texas A&M University-Commerce Lions (8-2 overall, 0-1 LSC) for the second time this season in a midweek matchup, Thursday at 7 p.m. in The Field House.

Henderson State is coming off a 3-0 loss to fellow conference member Harding. In the sweep, Harding showed no mercy with a 25-19, 25-23 and 25-17 win, holding the Lady Reddies to a .154 attack percentage.

Senior Cheyenne Derr (Mansfield, Ark.) and junior Katrina Goulbourne (Visalia, Calif.) was HSU's strongest performers offensively, contributing seven and six kills, respectively.

The team outblocked Harding, 6.0 to 3.0, led by Cherise Austin (Jr., Palmdale, Calif.), who totaled five. Lindsey Calabrese (San Jose, Calif.) and Raegan Large (Jr., Montgomery, Texas) posted seven digs a piece to top the Reddies defense.

With 20 assists in her previous match, Taylor Thompson (Jr., Yuba City, Calif.) has increased her total to 174 as HSU's starting setter, averaging 6.69 per set.

HSU will turn to middle blocker Jessica Moss (Jr., Garland, Texas), to assist them to even the season series to 1-1.

Texas A&M-Commerce
The Lions are coming off a 3-1 loss in their road conference opener to Texas Woman's on Tuesday. TAMU-Commerce suffered their second loss of the season, falling to the Pioneers 25-17, 25-19, 19-25 and 25-18 at Kitty Magee Arena.

Junior Breanne Snyder tied the match as the kills' leader with 13 and is currently third on the team with a total of 98. Junior Amy Davault and senior Kayla Bond already have reached the 100-kill mark, as Davault totals 125 and Bond follows at 108. Senior Jordan Neal has an impressive 426 assists on the season, averaging 11.83 per set.

Overall, the team is averaging 14.25 kills per set, hitting at a .220 overall average. The Lions are currently 0-1 on their home court.

Previous Meeting
The Lady Reddies and the Lions already battled with each other earlier this season. In the HSU Classic on Sept. 6, the Lions swept Henderson State, 3-0, easily winning, 25-14, 25-16 and 25-14. Moss and Goulbourne were the leaders for the Lady Reddies, posting seven and five kills, respectively. Three TAMU-Commerce players, each recorded eight kills as the Lions outhit HSU, 39-23.

Calabrese finished the match tied for the most digs with 10.
