ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – The Henderson State University volleyball team (1-8, 0-1 GAC) will go head-to-head with GAC member, Southern Arkansas (6-4, 0-1 GAC), on Tuesday, Sept. 24th in Magnolia, Ark. at 7 p.m.
Henderson State
Henderson State is looking to break a four-game losing skid after recently dropping a match, 3-0, to TAMU-Commerce. The Lady Reddies struggled to find their rhythm and record the upset against the Lions.
Katrina Goulbourne (Jr., Visalia, Calif.) continues to increase her team lead in kills, after adding nine from her last match, totaling 64. Senior
Cheyenne Derr (Mansfield, Ark.) is second on the team with 42, averaging 1.45 per set. Overall, the team is being held to a .101 attack percentage with 7.86 kills per set.
Junior
Sarah Williams (Conroe, Texas) has only seen action in eight sets but has already recorded 24 kills, leading the team in kills per set with 3.00.
Jami Jackson (Jr., Kennett, Mo.) has found herself as the block leader for the Lady Reddies, posting 15 in 29 sets played.
Currently, two Henderson State defenders, Derr and junior
Lindsey Calabrese (San Jose, Calif.) led the charge in total digs with 62 and 79, respectively.
Taylor Thompson (Jr., Yuba City, Calif.) has been solid as the Lady Reddies setter, dishing 196 assists, averaging 6.76 per set.
South Arkansas
Southern Arkansas will be hitting the courts for the first time in a week. SAU lost their conference-opener in five sets to Ouachita Baptist on Sept. 17.
In 37 sets played, Hailey McNee is the Lady Mulerides kills leader with 125, averaging 3.38 per set. Logan Tolbert and Courtney Geesing follow behind with 83 and 76, respectively. In a 6-2 offense, both Gabby Clark and Hannah Rice have been the key setup players in the offense. Clark currently records 8.92 assist per set, while Rice trails behind at 6.74.
As the defense holds their opponents to .181 attack percentage, the back line is averaging nearly 3.0 digs per set more than their foes at 14.51. Lauren Woods is slowly reaching the 200-mark as she sits at 184 digs.
Last Year's Meeting
In both meetings in 2012, Southern Arkansas came away victorious; winning the match on Sept. 18th, 3-0 and Oct. 25th, 3-1. The Lady Muleriders were able to squeak by in a three-set loss but not without a fight from the Lady Reddies. HSU lost the first set but SAU did not get the sweep easy, as the Lady Reddies put up a 25-23 and 25-22 battle in the next two sets.
Williams posted her second straight match on Sept. 18th, without an attack error and added nine kills.
Jessica Moss (Jr., Garland, Texas) led HSU with four blocks in the first meeting between the two teams.
On the Oct. 25 clash, Southern Arkansas took the first two sets, 27-25, 25-11, before Henderson State managed to win set three, 25-22 before falling in the fourth, 25-22.
