Box Score Henderson State finished the 2014 volleyball season with a 25-22, 25-19, 21-25, and 25-19 loss to Southern Arkansas, Thursday at the Duke Wells Center in Arkadelphia, Ark.
SAU, 13-17 overall and 7-7 in the GAC, jumped to an early lead in the opening set behind four kills by Alli O'Banion and Hailey McNee.
Henderson State, 4-27 and 0-14, fought back as
Jessica Moss scored three straight points while
Zara Loye had a service ace to cut the deficit to 24-22. Â O'Banion then ended the set with a kill for SAU.
The Muleriders opened a 10-5 lead in set two behind McNee's serving and Amanda Monge attacks. Monge went on to have seven winners in the set as SAU pulled away to win the second set 25-19.
In the third set, Henderson State led by as many as four points as Moss and
Violet Williams combined for five spikes to pace the Reddies to a 13-9 advantage.
Henderson continued to push points as the Reddies combined for 18 kills including seven by Moss and four each by
Nayeli Colunga and
Kaylie Pyles to win the third set 25-21.
SAU quickly took control of the fourth set building an 8-2 lead as Henderson committed four attack errors.
The Muleriders were on the attack the entre set, combining for 15 kills with Monge leading the way with six as SAU won the set 25-19 to take the match. HSU had a .034 hitting percentage in the set.
Colunga led Henderson State with 15 kills and compiled a .196 attack percentage in the match, while Moss finished with 13 spikes.
Defensively,
Andjela Reljic totaled 20 digs, while
Ryleigh Thompson totaled 44 set assists.
Moss, along
Sophia Cansigno were honored prior to the match as the two seniors were playing their final match for Henderson State.
Moss ended her four-year career at Henderson with 733 kills and 386 total blocks which ranks sixth in Henderson State history.
Cansigno finished her two years at Henderson having compiled 351 digs and 43 service aces.
