Henderson State Welcomes Arkansas-Monticello on Thursday

Henderson State returns to Great American Conference action as the Reddies play host to Arkansas-Monticello on Thursday, with the women tipping off at 5:30 p.m. and the men to follow at 7:30 at the Duke Wells Center.
 
The Reddie women, 2-5 overall and 0-2 in the GAC, fell to 10th ranked Pittsburg State on Monday 77-50, and will look to rebound against the visiting Cotton Blossoms, who sport a 2-4 overall and 1-1 conference record.

The Reddies are currently led by senior Aungelique Sledge who averages 17.6 points per game, ranking 6th overall in the GAC.

Sledge also averages five rebounds per game, and is second on the team having 10 assists.

Haleigh Henson has proven to be an outside shooting threat for the Reddies, as the freshman from Greenwood, Ark. has knocked down 17 three-point attempts, averaging 11.3 points per game

Henderson State has outrebounded its opponent in four of six games this season, including the two wins over Texas A&M-Commerce and Texas A&M-Kingsville.

Both Deidra McCoy and Makyndra Simmons lead the rebounding category for the Reddies, as McCoy averages 7.0 per game to go along with 5.9 points, while Simmons averages 7.0 points and 5.4 rebounds.

The Cotton Blossoms are led by Jordan Goforth, who averages 18.2 points and 7.0 rebounds per game. Goforth has also connected on 25-of-27 free throw attempts this season.

Nikki Mullen is the only other UAM player to average in double figures, scoring 12.8 points per game this season. She also leads the team in steals, having 10.

The Cotton Blossoms completed their participation in the University of West Florida Thanksgiving Invitational with a 57-43 loss to South Carolina-Aiken on Saturday afternoon.

Mullen led UAM in scoring with 12 points in that game, while Nelsha Peterson added eight points off the bench.
 
The Reddies bring a 3-3 record into Thursday's contest after an 83-69 win over Lane College last Saturday at the Duke Wells Center
.
The Reddies are averaging 67.2 points per game and are shooting 44.2 percent from the field.
 
Reggie Murphy leads the Reddies in scoring averaging 16.5 points and 6.7 rebounds per game following his 22 point performance against Lane.         

The senior from Los Angeles has converted on 41-of-65 shots from the field this year for a shooting percentage of .631.
 
Kevin Kozan scored a career-high 22 points and was 6-for-10 from 3-point range against Lane. Kozan is averaging 13.8 points per game which is second on the team. The product of New Lenox, Ill. is shooting 54.5 percent from the field, including 54.8 percent from beyond the arc making 17-of-31 3-point field goals.
 
Micah Walker averages 7.7 points and 4.8 rebounds per game with the help of a 16-point, 12-rebound performance against East Central.
 
The Boll Weevils are 2-2 overall and 0-2 in GAC contests following its most recent game, a 63-53 victory over then-ranked No. 21 Delta State at home this past Saturday. Thursday's game is UAM's first road contest this year.

The new-look Weevils, including eight first-year players and a new coaching staff, currently rank third in the GAC in scoring (80.1 points per game) and fifth in points allowed (71 per game).
 
UAM leads the league in rebound margin (+6.2 per game) and ranks third in shooting (49 percent). The Weevils are also one of only two teams in the league to have at least 20 blocked shots so far this year.       

Sharif Hudson leads the team and ranks third in the GAC in scoring at 21.8 points per game. Hudson has reached the 20-point mark in three of four games this year and scored 18 in the fourth. He also ranks in the top 10 of the GAC in rebounding, steals, and three-point field goal percentage.  

Henderson State and Arkansas-Monticello have played 151 times with the Reddies leading the series with a 91-60 advantage. The first meeting between the two teams was during the 1910-11 season. Last season, UAM won both meetings during the regular-season, but the Reddies upset the Boll Weevils in the opening round of the GAC Tournament.      

UAM has won four of the last five meetings and 11 of the last 15.
