REDDIES LOOK TO CLINCH A SPOT IN GAC TOURNAMENT

Henderson State will attempt to clinch a spot in the Great American Conference Tournament as the Reddies face Southwestern Oklahoma, Thursday at the Duke Wells Center with tip-off set for 7:30 p.m.
 
Thursday's game is sponsored by Smart Buick GMC of Malvern with special halftime promotional contests.
 
Henderson State, 11-13 overall and 7-9 in the GAC would clinch a spot in the post season event with a win and a loss by either Ouachita Baptist or Southeastern Oklahoma.


The Reddies are currently in sixth-place in the league standings among eligible teams, with the top eight advancing to the GAC Tournament.
 
Henderson State's freshmen trio of Kevin Kozan, Charles Wesley, and Bryan Umoru have come on strong in the last three games and were instrumental in Henderson's 91-88 win over Harding on Monday.
 
In Henderson's last three games, the threesome have been responsible for 34 percent of the scoring and have combined to make 24-of-55 3-point field goals.
 
Against Harding, the three combined to score 47 points with Wesley and Umoru both having career highs. Wesley totaled 22 points on 7-of-11 shooting while Umoru had 11 points along with a career-high 8 rebounds. Kozan totaled 14 points in the win.

Deoirvay Johnson leads the Reddies in scoring averaging 13.0 points off the bench, with Taylor Smith averaging 11.5 points per game.


Kozan leads the Reddies in 3-point field goals with 56 and averages 10.1 points per outting.
 
Southwestern Oklahoma is 14-8 overall and 11-5 in the GAC. The Bulldogs are a half game back of league-leader Arkansas Tech in the GAC standings.
 
SWOSU is coming off an 82-76 win over Southeastern Oklahoma in a game that featured four Bulldogs scoring in double-figures.
 
SWOSU averages 71.2 points per game while allowing 69.7 points per contest.  


Rod Camphor leads the Bulldogs in scoring and ranks fourth in the GAC averaging 17.2 points per game.           


Gary Inglett follows averaging 14.8 points per game while leading the team in rebounding, averaging 8.0 boards per game which ranks third in the GAC.
 
Southwestern Oklahoma beat the Reddies 79-76 in Weatherford, Okla. earlier this season.
 
Five Reddies scored in double-figures in the loss to the Bulldogs, with Melvin Haynes leading the way scoring 25 points while hitting 6-of-10 from the 3-point line.
 
Ronald Lawson scored 13 points and had 9 rebounds, while Kozan and Smith both totaled 11 points. Johnson finished with 10 points.
 
Camphor led SWOSU with 23 points while Inglett scored 20 points.
 
Henderson State and Southwestern Oklahoma meet for the seventh time in a series which began in 2012. The series is tied at 3-3 with Southwestern winning three of the last four games.
