Box Score 2 A young Henderson State volleyball team showed great effort in a pair of losses at the HSU Classic Friday at the Duke Wells Center.
The Reddies began the tournament with a 25-10, 23-25, 25-13 and 25-16 loss to McMurry University, before losing in straight sets to Central Oklahoma 25-13, 25-22, and 25-16.
In the opener, Henderson State fought back from an opening set loss to win the second set 25-23 with the help of five kills each by
Carli Owens and
Kaylie Pyles.
The War Hawks rebounded to win the next two sets to claim the match.
Owens led Henderson with 11 kills and had a stout attack percentage of .556, while
Ryleigh Thompson collectted 33 set assists and 10 defensive digs in the match.
An experienced Central Oklahoma team used a .253 attack percentage to beat the Reddies in the final match of the day.
Jessica Moss totaled 12 kills for Henderson and had a .222 hitting percentage, while Thompson added 24 assists.
The HSU Classic continues on Saturday with Henderson State taking on Fort Hays State at 11 a.m. followed by a 3 p.m. match against Union University.
