Box Score Henderson State could not overcome a 12-point halftime deficit as the Reddies lost to Southwestern Oklahoma 73-60, Thursday at the Duke Wells Center in Arkadelphia, Ark.
Micah Walker and
Kelvin Dixon scored 12 points each for the Reddies, while
Aaron Cooper finished the night with 10.
Martell Collins led the Bulldogs with 25 points and 13 rebounds, with Kenyan Borders scoring 16 points while pulling down eight boards.
The Reddies, 7-8 overall and 4-5 in the Great American Conference, had an 18-12 lead with 12:10 left in the first half following a Cooper 3-point field goal and a dunk by
Rashad Perkins.
Southwestern Oklahoma, 9-6 and 3-5, quickly responded and went on a 10-0 run with the help of a pair of 3-point field goals by Collins and Trent Washington to make the score 22-18 with 7:28 left in the opening half.
A layup by
Kerrell Davis, a 3-point field goal by
Trey Porter, and a put-back in the paint by
Reggie Murphy helped Henderson regain the lead 25-22 at the 6:07 mark.
The Reddies, however, would not score again in the half as Southwestern Oklahoma went on a 15-0 run to close out the half and take a 37-25 lead at the break.
Henderson trailed by as many as 18 in the second half, but manage to draw within four following 3-point field goals by Walker and
Kevin Kozan, and a tip-in by Perkins to make the score 48-44 with 8:57 remaining in the game. Â
The Reddies, however, would make just 4-of-15 shots down the stretch as the Bulldogs were able to pull away.
Henderson State finished the night making 24-of-62 shots from the field for 39 percent shooting, while Southwestern Oklahoma was 26-of-54 for 48 percent shooting.
The Reddies made just 4-of-11 free throw attempts, while Bulldogs went to the line 25 times, making 16.
Henderson State will next play host to Ouachita Baptist on Thursday, Jan. 22 for the Southern Bancorp Battle of the Ravine with tipoff set for 7:30 p.m. at the Duke Wells Center.
