Box Score Henderson State got a pair of double-double performances as the Reddies ran past Southwestern Oklahoma 85-73 in women's basketball action Thursday, at the Duke Wells Center in Arkadelphia, Ark.
Aungelique Sledge scored 35 points and had a career-high 16 rebounds along with 5 assists and four steals to lead Henderson.
The senior from West Helena, Ark. moved up to sixth-place in career scoring at Henderson running her total to 1077 points.
Dulincia Keener also had a big night with 13 points and 14 rebounds, while
Victoria Stewart totaled 13 points and five boards.
Haleigh Henson also scored in double-figures having 10 points to go along with four rebounds and three assists.
"I was really proud of our girls, especially offensively," said Henderson State head coach
Jill Thomas. "They did a good job bouncing back from a disappointing loss last Saturday. It was a great all-around performance."
It was a high-scoring, fast-paced first-half as the lead changed hands eight times before Sledge and Stewart had back-to-back layups to put Henderson State on top 44-42 at the break.
The Reddies would never trail again as Sledge and Keener quickly pushed Henderson's lead to 10 points to begin the second half going on an 8-0 run.
Southwestern Oklahoma, 5-9 overall and 2-6 in the Great American Conference, cut the Henderson lead to four with the help of a Korina Chapman 3-point field goal following layups by Chelsea Bates and Morgan Vogt at the 6:08 mark.
Sledge sparked the Reddies with a 3-point field goal followed by another trifecta by Henson to give Henderson State a 10 point advantage.
Henderson State, 5-10 overall and 3-6 in league play, connected on six straight free throws down the stretch to hold off the Bulldogs and record its third win in the last four games.
The Reddies finished the game shooting 45 percent from the field making 33-of-73 shots while SWOSU ended the game making 30-of-82 shots for 37 percent.
Henderson State dominated the boards, outrebounding the Bulldogs 54 to 43.
Henderson State will next play host to Ouachita Baptist on Thursday, Jan. 15 for the Southern Bancorp Battle of the Ravine with tipoff set for 5:30 p.m. at the Duke Wells Center.
