HSU BASKETBALL HITS THE ROAD FOR MONTICELLO

The Henderson State basketball team will hit the road Saturday as the teams travel to Monticello, Ark. to take on the University of Arkansas-Monticello in Great American Conference action.
 
The women's game is set to tipoff at 2 p.m. with the men to follow at 4 p.m.
 
The Henderson State women have won five of their last seven games including an upset a win over 16th ranked Harding 91-85.
 
Henderson State averages 69.7 points per game during conference play this season, shooting 43 percent from the field and 33 percent from 3-point range. The Reddies have knocked down 91-of-277 attempts from three during conference play, and almost 3 more per game than opponents.

Aungelique Sledge leads the team in scoring this season averaging 19.2 points per game, and had a big game Thursday against Harding with 16 points and 7 rebounds.  
 
Dulincia Keener has also been a big part of HSU's success over the past five games, having double-double efforts in three of her last four games. The junior from Texarkana had 20 points and 12 rebounds against Harding.
 
Haleigh Henson is HSU's 3-point shooting threat having made 45-of-133 trifectas, and averages 10.8 points per game this season.
 
Arkansas-Monticello comes into the game after picking up a 73-52 win over OBU on Thursday.
 
The Cotton Blossoms are led by Jordan Goforth, averaging 17.2 points and 6.3 rebounds per game. Nikki Mullen (10.4) and Nelsha Peterson (10.3) also average double-figures for UAM. 
 
The two teams met earlier this season on Dec. 4, where UAM took a 66-62 victory in Arkadelphia.
HSU held a late 62-59 lead over UAM with just over a minute to play, but two straight UAM layups by Jordan Goforth and Nelsha Peterson after back-to-back Reddie turnovers gave the Cotton Blossoms the win.
Freshman Annie Thomas led the balanced Reddie scoring attack with 14 points while also leading the team in rebounds with seven.
Both Deidra McCoy and Vanessa Pieper each had 10 points apiece to round out the double-digit scorers for Henderson State. 
The Reddie men will attempt to get back in the win column after coming off a 74-61 loss to Harding on Thursday.
 
The Reddies enter the game with an 8-10 overall record and a 5-7 record in GAC play. The Reddies are in a three-way tie for sixth-place in the GAC standings.
 
Kevin Kozan leads the Reddies in scoring averaging 14.7 points per game including 11 points in the first meeting with UAM.
 
Reggie Murphy follows averaging 12.4 points and a team-best 6.4 rebounds per game. Murphy recorded a double-double in the first contest against UAM having 15 points and 14 rebounds.
           
UAM has a 5-11 overall record and a 2-10 mark in the GAC. The Boll Weevils will be attempting to end a five-game losing skid.
 
UAM ranks fifth in the GAC in scoring (74.4 points per game) and is sixth in field goal percentage (44.3). The Boll Weevils are 10th in 3-point field goal shooting at 30.5 percent. 
 
Sharif Hudson leads the team in scoring at 15.5 points and 6.4 rebounds per game.
 
Jamal Peterson follows averaging 13.1 points including shooting 32 percent from behind the 3-point arc making 34-of-106 attempts. Peterson led UAM in the first game against HSU scoring 12 points.
 
In the first game against UAM, Murphy and Kelvin Dixon combined for 31 points and 23 rebounds to lead Henderson State to a 63-51 win over Arkansas-Monticello.
 
The two big men were a force inside as Murphy recorded a double-double with 15 points and 14 rebounds, while Dixon totaled 16 points and pulled down 9 boards.
 
Henderson State and Arkansas- Monticello have played 152 times with the Reddies leading the series with a 92-60 advantage.

Henderson won the first game this season, 63-51. The first meeting between the two teams was during the 1910-11 season.
