MURPHY PROPELS HENDERSON TO A 95-91 OVERTIME WIN

Reggie Murphy had a career-high 35 points and 13 rebounds as Henderson State overcame an 11-point halftime deficit to beat Arkansas-Monticello 95-91, Saturday in Monticello, Ark.

UAM, 5-12 overall and 2-11 in the Great American Conference, led by as many as 14 points in the first-half as the Reddies committed 14 turnovers leading to 28 Boll Weevil points.

Henderson State, 9-10 overall and 6-7 in league play, used numerous second –half runs as Murphy dominated the inside game scoring 23 points in the half.

The Reddies took their first lead of the second-half as Kevin Kozan hit back-to-back 3-point field goals to give Henderson a 79-78 lead with 2:45 left in regulation.

Following a layup by UAM's Cameron Blue, Murphy put Henderson back on top 81-80 with just over two minutes remaining.

UAM tied the score at 81-81 as Sharif Hudson hit one of two free throws with 37 seconds left.

In the extra-period, Micah Walker gave HSU a quick lead with a layup just 16 seconds in.

UAM, however, got a big 3-point field goal by Jamal Peterson and a layup by D'Audrio Patton at the 3:12 mark to go on top 86-83.

A pair of free throws by Kelvin Dixon and two layups by Murphy put Henderson on top 89-66 with 59 second left.

Kozan then hit two free throws and Aaron Cooper sunk 4-of-6 shots from the charity stripe to secure the win.

Kozan finished the game with 15 points and 5 rebounds, while Walker tallied 13 points and four boards.    

Dixon finished with 9 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists, with Cooper having 9 points and five assists.

The Reddies finished the game shooting 57 percent from the field making 36-of-63 field goals, while UAM was 33-of-72 for 46 percent shooting.

The Reddies will return to action on Thursday, as the team travels to Ada, Okla. to take on East Central in a Great American Conference matchup. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
