HENDERSON STATE BASKETBALL HEADS FOR OKLAHOMA

Henderson State will head for the Sooner State this week for a pair of Great American Conference basketball games beginning on Thursday when the Reddies take on Southern Nazarene in Bethany, Okla.
 
The women's game is set to tip off at 5:30 p.m. with the men to follow at 7:30 p.m.

Henderson will then travel to Alva, Okla. on Saturday to face Northwestern Oklahoma.
 
The Reddie women used a strong second half surge and balanced scoring attack to beat Southern Arkansas last Saturday for their first Great American Conference win of the season.
 
Henderson State trailed by as many as 20 points in the first half, but used 68 percent shooting in the second half making 17-of-25 shots from the field for the win.
 
Aungelique Sledge led the balanced attack for HSU with 19 points on 7-of-15 field goal attempts.
 
Sledge, who became the 10th player in HSU women's basketball history to record 1,000 points for a career, lead the Reddies averaging 17.5 points per game.
 
Dulincia Keener scored 18 points on 7-of-11 attempts and ripped down 9 boards against Southern Arkansas. The junior from Texarkana, Ark. is averaging 7.1 points and 4.6 boards per game.
 
Haleigh Henson knocked down 5 three-point attempts and pitched in 17 points last Saturday and enters this week averaging 9.4 points per game.
 
Southern Nazarene, 5-7 overall and 2-4 in the GAC, is led by Aminata Fall who leads the conference in scoring averaging 21.2 points per game along with 12.7 rebounds a game.
 
The team's only other double-digit scorer is Abby Boyd, who averages 13.8 points and 3.0 assists per game.
 
Last Saturday, SNU gave the ball up 19 times and shot just 34.6 percent from the floor in its 55-49 loss to East Central.
 
Fall scored 19 points, grabbed 14 rebounds, and dished out five assists. Boyd scored nine points and pulled in two rebounds, while Danielle Gaddis pitched in seven points and grabbed two rebounds.
 
Southern Nazarene holds the all-time series record 3-1 over Henderson State, as the two teams split games last season.
 
Henderson State took the first game last season on January 4, 2014 in Arkadelphia 86-71.
 
Sledge ended the game with a career-high 36 points and tied a Henderson State record for 3-point field goals made with seven. She was 7-for-7 from beyond the arc setting a HSU record for 3-point field goal percentage in a game.
 
Southern Nazarene took the second game 95-87 in Bethany, Okla. on February 6, 2014.
           
The Reddie men will look to end a three game losing skid and record only its second road win of the year.
 
The Reddies bring a 6-6 record into the contest and a 3-3 conference record.
Henderson State will look to improve defensively as Henderson has allowed an average of 87.3 points per game in the last three games.
 
Micah Walker, who is averaging 10.5 points and 5.0 rebounds per contest, has been the "go-to" guy as of late. The senior from Jonesboro, Ark. is averaging 16.8 points and has totaled 11-of-23 three-point field goals in the last five games.
 
Rashad Perkins has been a welcomed addition since becoming eligible on December 19. The junior from Starkville, Miss. is averaging 15 points and 5.0 rebound per game including a career-high 20 points last week against Southern Arkansas.
 
Kevin Kozan is averaging 14.4 points per game and is Henderson's top 3-point shooter having made 34-of-78 long range jumpers. 
 
Reggie Murphy follows averaging 13.7 points and 6.7 rebounds per game.

Southern Nazarene has compiled a 7-5 overall record and a 3-3 mark in GAC play following a 78-75 loss to East Central last Saturday.     

The Crimson Storm averages 71.3 points per game with their opponents scoring 68.8 points per contest which ranks second-best in the GAC.  

SNU has one of the better free throw shooting teams in the league, with the Crimson Storm knocking down 73 percent from the charity stripe.
 
LB Willis leads the team in scoring averaging 14.9 points per game. Willis has scored in double-figures in 11 of 12 games this season including 19 points against Cameron and Arkansas-Monticello.    

Francisco Hukill follows averaging 11.8 points. Hukill leads the team in rebounding (6.4) and is second on the team in 3-point field goals with 23-of-60 attempts.
 
Garrett Butler, who is scoring at a 9.6 clip, leads the team in 3-point field goals with 30-of-70 for 43 percent shooting from long range.
 
Southern Nazarene leads the all-time series having a 6-5 advantage. The two teams spilt the series last year and the series is even at 2-2 since the two institutions joined the GAC.

Henderson has a 2-5 record all-time against the Crimson Storm in games played in Bethany, Okla.
 
The first meeting between HSU and SNU was on March 8, 1976 when the teams met in the opening round of the NAIA National Tournament. SNU was then known as Bethany Nazarene. Henderson went on to win that game 80-67 and advanced to the National Championship game before losing to Coppin State 96-91.
