HSU WOMEN LOOK TO CLINCH SPOT IN GAC BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT

The Henderson State women's basketball team will attempt to clinch a spot in the Great American Conference Tournament as the Reddies travel across highway 7 to take on Ouachita Baptist in the Battle of the Ravine on Thursday with tipoff set for 5:30 p.m. in Vining Arena.

Henderson State, 9-15 overall and 7-11 in the GAC, will lock up a spot in next week's GAC Tournament in Bartlesville, Okla. with a win over the Lady Tigers.

The Reddies beat the Lady Tigers earlier this season 75-46 at the Duke Wells Center.

In the win over the Lady Tigers, Aungelique Sledge scored 24 points along with 7 rebounds, 5 assists, and 6 steals.

Haleigh Henson had 22 points including six 3-point field goals, while Dulincia Keener totaled 16 points along with a team-high 13 rebounds.

Sledge leads the team in scoring averaging 19.8 points per game, and needs 24 points to become the third women's basketball player in HSU history to score 500 or more points in back-to-back seasons.

Henson is averaging 11.7 points per contest. The freshman from Greenwood, Ark. is HSU's 3-point shooting threat having made 67-of-187 trifectas.

Keener is scoring at a 10.5 clip while grabbing 6.7 boards per game.

Ouachita Baptist enters the game with a 10-15 overall record and a 6-12 mark in GAC play. The Lady Tigers are also battling for a spot in the GAC postseason event.

The Lady Tigers average 63.8 points per game and are led in scoring by Breanna Harris, who averages 13.0 points per game, while Katie Kapler averages 11.9 points and 7.4 rebounds per game at the post position.

It will be the 75th meeting between the two teams with the series tied at 37-37.
