HSU WOMEN FALL ON THE ROAD TO ECU 84-80

After holding a 49-39 halftime lead, the Henderson State women's basketball team fell 84-80 to East Central (13-6, 9-5 GAC) on Thursday night in Ada, Okla.

The Reddies (7-13, 5-9 GAC) were outscored 45-to-31 in the second half. After nailing nine first-half 3-point field-goals, Henderson was limited to just three in the second half.

Henderson State made 28-of-62 attempts from the field overall for a 45 percent shooting average, while East Central shot slightly better at 51 percent, making 30-of-59 attempts.

East Central began the second half on a 9-to-2 run, which allowed the Tigers to climb back into the game.

HSU held a 78-77 lead with 45 seconds remaining, but ECU's Taylor Fischer penetrated inside and knocked down a runner in the lane to give the Tigers a one point lead.

After the Reddies came up empty handed on their next two possessions, ECU went on to nail five straight free throws, claiming the victory.

Aungelique Sledge poured in 21 first half points, and finished the game with 31 points on 12-of-25 attempts from the field, including 4-of-7 from the 3-point line. The senior from West Helena also ripped down seven boards.

Jasmine Settles also had a big night with 16 points, knocking down three 3-point attempts, while Haleigh Henson pitched in 15 and nailed 4-of-7 threes.

The Reddies were outrebounded 41-to-28, as the Tigers put up 16 second chance points to just four for HSU.

ECU also knocked down 17-of-20 attempts from the charity stripe for 85 percent, while HSU connected on 12-of-19 for 63 percent.

Henderson State returns to action on Saturday on the road at Southeastern Oklahoma. Tipoff is set for 1 p.m.
