Reddies Wrap Up Road Swing in Monticello

Henderson State concludes its four game road swing as the Reddies travel to Monticello, Ark. to face Arkansas-Monticello on Saturday with tipoff set for 4 p.m.
 
The two teams are coming off road losses on Thursday and have 2-5 records in Great American Conference play.
 
Arkansas-Monticello enters the contest with a 4-9 record overall and are 2-5 in league play following a 78-64 loss at Harding on Thursday. The Weevils are 3-1 at home with their only set back a 71-66 loss to Southwestern Oklahoma on Dec. 3.
 
The Weevils average 72.2 points per game offensively, shooting 43 percent from the field. UAM leads the league in turnover margin at +2.5 per game as well as steals averaging 7.2 per contest.
 
UAM is loaded with numerous transfers including Jamal Peterson who leads the team averaging 14.2 points per game. The senior from Las Vegas ranks third in the GAC in 3-point field goals with 40 while shooting 43 percent from beyond the arc. Peterson totaled 35 points in the two games last year against the Reddies including 23 points in Monticello.
 
Richard Benedyth follows averaging 13.8 points per contest and leads the team in assists with 40.
 
Henderson State, 3-9 overall, is coming off a loss at Southern Arkansas in a game that saw the Reddies fight back from a 16-point deficit in the second half but fell short as the Muleriders held off the Reddies for a 79-71 win.
 
The Reddies are averaging just 68.5 points per game offensively which ranks 11th in the GAC, while the Henderson defense has limited opponents to a GAC best 69.8 points per contest.     

Kaylon Tappin scored a career-high 17 points against SAU to improve his season average to 10.0 points per game.
 
Kevin Kozan, who scored 13 points on Thursday, leads Henderson in scoring averaging 14.7 points per game.
 
Tavian Pomlee has scored in double-figures in the last four games and averages 11.0 points and 5.3 rebounds per game.                 

Alouine Mboup has improved tremendously and has averaged 10.3 points and 6.3 rebounds per game in the last three games
Henderson State leads the all-time series with a 93-60 advantage in a series which began in 1931.            

The Reddies have won the last three meetings including a 95-91 win last year in Monticello. Henderson is 5-4 against UAM since the two teams joined the GAC.
Saturday's game will be carried on 106.9 FM KYXK Arkadelphia/Gurdon.
 
R.J. Hawk (@RJHawk) will provide the play-by-play of Henderson State basketball with color commentary for the women's game provided by Athletics Media Relations Assistant Hunter Lively (@HLively). Former Reddie player and coach Grady Bean will provide the color commentary for the men's game.
