Henderson State split a double-header with Tarleton State on Saturday as the Reddies won the opener 5-2, before dropping the nightcap 13-5 at Clyde Berry Field in Arkadelphia, Ark.
AJ Kruzel led the Reddies with three hits on the day including a double, while
Hayden Lessenberry and
Hunter Mayall had two doubles each.
In game one
Tadarious Hawkins broke a 2-2 tie in the bottom of the eighth-inning with a single to right-centerfield to score Kruzel who led off the frame with a double off the centerfield wall.
Henderson, 1-2 on the year, would tack on two more runs in the inning as Hawkins scored on an
Alan Hall bunt single. The Reddies would load the bases and Hall would score on a walk issued to
Jordan Taylor.
The Reddies began the game with runs in the first and second innings. Lessenberry doubled in the opening inning to plate Taylor who singled while Mayall laced a double to right field to score
Alex Morgan the following inning.
Tarleton would score a run in the sixth to cut the Reddie lead to 2-1.
In the Texan eighth, TSU would tie the score on a double by Alex Humphreys and proceed to place runners on second and third with one out.
Reddie reliever
Nick Vanthillo would enter the game and get out of the jam with a strike out and a pop fly.
The senior right hander would finish the game to pick up the win recording a pair of strikeouts.
Luke Tebbetts began the game on the mound for the Reddies and pitched six solid innings, striking out four batters and scattering five hits.
In game two, Tarleton State benefitted from seven walks, five hits batters and three Reddie errors to win the finale.
Henderson outhit the Texans in the game 10 to 7, but the Reddies would use five pitchers in the game with
Zach Eschberger getting tabbed with the loss.
Logan DeRosier pitched the final three innings for Henderson, shutting out the Texans while striking out three batters and not surrendering a hit.
Henderson will next travel to Houston, Texas to play Houston Astros Winter Invitational at Minute Maid Park. The Reddies will open the event on Thursday against Central Missouri at 6 p.m.
