Volleyball faces ECU, SOSU in Oklahoma road trip

Following a 1-1 split in its two Great American Conference games last week, the Henderson State volleyball team takes to the road this weekend for GAC games against East Central on Friday at 7 p.m. in Ada, Oklahoma and against Southeastern Oklahoma State on Saturday at 1 p.m. in Durant, Oklahoma.

The Reddies are 2-9 all-time against ECU, but hold an 8-5 advantage in 13 meetings with Southeastern Oklahoma. Henderson beat both teams last season, marking their only conference wins of 2015.
 
Henderson State (9-10) Notes:
 
The Reddies are coming off of two GAC games last weekend; a 3-0 loss to Oklahoma Baptist and a 3-1 win over Southern Nazarene. Henderson is now 4-3 in the GAC and in a tie for third in the conference standings heading into their Oklahoma road trip.
 
The usual faces continue to lead the way for the Reddies in 2016. Sophomore Sharon Tukuaoga's 265 kills is second best in the GAC and ranks 20th in the nation for NCAA DII. She is second in the conference with 3.68 kills per set. Defensively she also has 51 blocks to her credit this year, third best on the team behind freshman Adrianna Hartmann's 64, which is fourth best in the GAC, and sophomore Gabby Ginapp's 52.
 
Freshman Courtney Bolf, who did not play in last week's games due to injury, remains second on the team with 239 kills and 209 digs. She averages 3.57 kills per set, which is good for fourth in the conference.
 
Junior libero Sydney Skelton leads the conference in total digs with 354, which puts her 27th nationally.
 
As a team, the Reddies are fourth in the GAC with 11.78 assists per set and are also fourth in blocks per set with 1.86 blocks per game.
 
East Central (5-14) Notes:
 
The Tigers are 3-4 in the GAC in 2016 and have been swept in their last three conference games.
 
ECU has four players with more than 100 kills on the year and is led by junior Madyson Gill, who has 158 kills on the year and averages 2.36 kills per set. The Tiger's setter, junior Taylor Turner, has 504 assists to her credit in 2016.
 
Defensively the Tigers have five players with more than 100 digs this season and their libero, junior Lily Porsa, leads the team with 263 total and an average of 4.11 digs per set.

As a team, ECU is last in the GAC in several statistical categories, including hitting percentage, kills and assists, but do rank eighth in the conference in opponent hitting percentage at .203 percent.
 
Southeastern Oklahoma State (8-11) Notes:
 
The Savage Storm are 1-6 in GAC play in 2016 and have dropped their last two games to Harding and Arkansas Tech.
 
Sophomore Abby Jameson leads their offensive attack, with 188 kills this year and an average of 2.94 kills per set, while junior setter Alissa Benson has 646 assists in 2016 with an average of 9.64 assists per set, which is good for fourth best in the GAC.
 
Senior Julia Benford also has 156 kills to her credit this season and is fourth in the GAC with a hitting percentage of .317.
 
The Savage Storm have an anchor defensively in freshman libero Caitlin Cosby, who leads the GAC with 5.37 digs per set, and is third in total digs with 349.

As a team, SOSU is fifth in the conference with a hitting percentage of .178 and is fifth in kills per set with 12.24.
