Volleyball looks for season sweep of Arkansas Tech on Thursday

The Henderson State volleyball team looks for a season sweep of Arkansas Tech, and sole possession of second-place in the Great American Conference, when the Golden Suns visit the Duke Wells Center on Thursday at 6 p.m.

Series:
The Reddies won the first matchup of the two schools this season, taking a 3-1 contest in Russellville, Arkansas, behind 16 kills from both Sharon Tukuaoga and Courtney Bolf. The win was Henderson's first over Tech since 2007 and snapped an 18-match losing streak to the Golden Suns. Arkansas Tech still leads the all-time series 26-19.

Henderson State (12-11) Notes:

The Reddies, after a 1-1 split with Southwestern Oklahoma State and Northwestern Oklahoma State last weekend, now sit at 7-4 in GAC play on the year; tied for second-place in the conference standings along with Tech. They trail Ouachita Baptist, Harding and Oklahoma Baptist (8-3) by a single game with five conference matches remaining in the regular season.

Henderson got big numbers last week from freshman setter Haley Higgins, who registered a triple-double in a 3-2 loss to SWOSU on Friday with 34 assists, 12 kills and 11 digs; and then nearly notched another in a 3-1 win over NWOSU with 24 assists, 11 kills and seven digs.

The Reddies also got strong play from Tukuaoga, who had 33 kills in the two contests, including 21 against SWOSU. Tukuaoga remains second in the GAC in total kills (343) and kills per set (3.85).

Defensively for the Reddies, junior libero Sydney Skelton is second in the conference in total digs (465) and third in digs per set (5.17), while freshman Adrianna Hartmann ranks fourth in the GAC in total blocks (75) and seventh in blocks per set (0.88).

Henderson's 12 wins this season are the most in one year since 2010 when the Reddies went 14-14, and their seven conference wins to date are the most since they went 7-5 in the Gulf South Conference in 2009.

Arkansas Tech (17-10) Notes:

The Golden Suns enter Thursday night 7-4 in GAC play after dropping two matches last week to Southern Nazarene and Oklahoma Baptist. Tech is tied with the Reddies for second-place in the conference standings.

Tech is led by sophomore Hunter Eshnaur, who is third in the GAC in total kills (312) and fourth in kills per set (3.51), as well as freshman Lauren Rodemers, who is sixth in the conference in hitting percentage (.299) and fifth in blocks per set (0.91).

As a team, the Golden Suns rank second in the GAC in kills per set (13.33) and assists per set (12.35), and are third in both hitting percentage (.217) and opponent hitting percentage (.163).
