The Henderson State volleyball team used 19 kills from
Kamra Jackson and a career-high 17 kills from
Adrianna Hartmann to defeat Southern Arkansas 3-1 (25-15, 25-27, 25-14, 25-23) on Senior Night in the Duke Wells Center.
The first game set the tone for the Reddies. With the score tied at 8-8, Henderson went on a gradual 10-5 run to grab an 18-13 lead. SAU would never get within five points again, as the Reddies closed the set by winning seven of the next nine points to take a 25-15 win and a 1-0 lead in the match.
Set two was tight throughout, until the Lady Muleriders eventually opened up a 22-18 lead. Henderson rallied with a 6-2 stretch to push it to 24-24, but SAU took three of the next four points to take game two 27-25.
After a wakeup call from the Lady Muleriders in the second set, game three was controlled by the Reddies from start to finish, as they opened on a 16-6 tear which they carried to an easy 25-14 win and a 2-1 advantage. Henderson hit .387 as team in the third frame while holding SAU to a hitting percentage of .027.
Game four was close throughout, but with the score tied 9-9 the Reddies went on an 8-4 run to snatch a 17-13 lead and push the Lady Muleriders to the brink. SAU responded by cutting the lead to one at 18-17, but Henderson was able to keep them just one point away for the rest of the set until they finally finished it off 25-23 to win the match 3-1.
Gabby Ginapp had a big game for the Reddies with 13 kills and six blocks, while
Sydney Skelton racked up a game-high 23 digs to help the Henderson back line. Henderson's middle blockers, Ginapp and Hartmann, hit .765 and .556, respectively, in the match.
As a team, the Reddies had an attack percentage of .324 in the win. Defensively they held SAU to a .159 hitting percentage and blocked 19 Lady Mulerider attacks. The win gives Henderson its first .500 or better conference finish since 2009 when they went 7-5 in the Gulf South Conference.
Henderson will now head to the Great American Conference Tournament in Hot Springs, Arkansas on Nov. 17-19 and will be either the No. 6 or 7 seed.
