Henderson State could not overcome a 15-point first-half deficit as Nebraska-Kearney beat the Reddies 85-66, Saturday at the Central Region Crossover in Lancaster, Texas.
Henderson State, 1-1 on the season, had a difficult shooting half in the first 20 minutes as the Reddies converted on just 8-of-26 shots from the field for 31 percent.
Nebraska-Kearney built a 41-26 halftime lead making 12-of-25 shots from the field including 6-of-12 from the 3-point arc.
Henderson would have a better second-half shooting 59 percent from the field making 17-of-29 attempts, but UNK continued its solid performance hitting on 14-of-25 attempts.
The Reddies were led by
Kevin Kozan and
Toney Foster, both having 14 points.
Eric Dailey also scored in double-figures having 11 points while
Chris Hawkins added 9 points.
UNK also benefitted from the foul line making 21-of-27 attempts while the Reddies were 12-of-13 from the charity stripe.
Henderson will make its home debut on Thursday when the Reddies play host to Southern Nazarene in Great American Conference action. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m. at the Duke Wells Center. The Reddies women will play the Storm prior to the men beginning at 5:30 p.m.
