Reddies face SAU Thursday in final home contest of 2016

The Henderson State volleyball team will honor seniors Jessie Jacoby and Leila Whaley as it plays its final regular season match of the year Thursday, Nov. 10 at 6 p.m. against Southern Arkansas in the Duke Wells Center.

Series:
Henderson leads the all-time series between the two schools 35-14, but has lost the last 12 meetings, including the first contest of 2016 back on Sept. 23 which SAU won 3-2 in Magnolia, Arkansas. The Reddies haven't defeated the Lady Muleriders since 2010.

Henderson State (12-15) Notes:
The Reddies dropped their fourth-straight Great American Conference match on Tuesday night at Arkansas-Monticello 3-1, to bring their GAC record to 7-8 on the season. A win on Thursday would give Henderson its first .500 or better conference finish since the 2009 season when the Reddies went 7-5 in the Gulf South Conference. Henderson is already locked into a spot in the GAC Tournament in Hot Springs, Arkansas on Nov. 17-19, and will likely be either the 6-seed or 7-seed in the eight-team tournament.

Despite the loss, junior libero Sydney Skelton broke the school record for digs in a four-set match with 54, just one shy of tying the all-time school record of 55 set by Bethany Wright in 2007 in a five-set match. Skelton now has the most digs of any player in the GAC (580) and is second in the conference in digs per set (5.52).

Henderson will honor its two seniors, Leila Whaley and Jessie Jacoby, on Thursday during Senior Night festivities. Whaley is a senior transfer from American River College, who has 57 kills and 101 digs on the season, while Jacoby is a four-year letter-winner and Honorable Mention All-GAC performer in 2015 who has 104 kills in her senior campaign.

Southern Arkansas (9-20) Notes:
The Lady Muleriders are 3-12 this season in GAC play and have lost seven of their last eight conference matches, including the last five in a row.

SAU is led offensively by Serena LeDuff and Alli O'Banion, who have 288 and 271 kills on the year, respectively. Freshman setter Katy Cooper has also tallied 807 assists and is fifth in the GAC in assists per set (9.84).

Paige Mays leads the Lady Muleriders backline with 415 digs on the year, while O'Banion and Kaitlyn Reiner both have over 50 blocks on the season up at the net.

As a team, SAU is fifth in the conference in digs per set (16.96) but is last in blocks per set (1.11).
