Box Score An early second half surge catapulted Arkansas Tech to a 78-65 victory over the Henderson State men's basketball team in HSU's final road contest on Thursday night in Russellville.
The Reddies would lead at the halftime break by a score of 37-32, after both
Zydrunas Jurgutis and
Aaron Cooper knocked down two treys each and contributed eight first half points apiece.
However, Tech responded with a 12-0 run to begin the second half and regain possession of the lead as Henderson State scored its first bucket of the second half at the 15:27 mark on a Jurgutis three-pointer.
The Reddies would pull within two at the 8:14 mark on a
Ben Marello jumper, but would get no closer as Arkansas Tech answered with a 9-2 run over the next three minutes.
HSU finished the contest knocking down 26-of-56 shot attempts for 46 percent, while Arkansas Tech was 28-of-52 from the field for 54 percent.
From beyond-the-arc, the Reddies were 11-of-26 for 42 percent, but only attempted two free throws, making both.
In the rebounding category, ATU outmatched the Reddies pulling down 35 to just 24 for HSU.
However, the Reddies did force 14 miscues from Tech while only turning the ball over 11 times in the contest, and also dished out 18 team assists while limiting ATU to 12.
Individually, Jurgutis led HSU with 14 points on the night, while Marello pitched in 12.
Also scoring in double figures were
Kaylon Tappin with 11 points and
Kevin Kozan with 10.
Arkansas Tech was led by Tyler Corley with 21 points, while Andrew Guillory pitched in 20 and six boards.
HSU will look to bounce back on Saturday as the Reddies return home for a GAC matchup against Harding, with tipoff slated for 3 p.m.
