Women's Basketball Hunter Lively

Reddies Prepared for GAC Matchup at East Central

Henderson State's women's basketball team is set for another round of road conference play as the Reddies will take on East Central on Thursday, with tipoff scheduled for 5:30 p.m. in Ada, Okla.

HSU's last game was Saturday as the Reddies fell 66-60 to Oklahoma Baptist at the Duke Wells Center.

Henderson State(9-10, 8-5 GAC) was led by Torrie Thompson who had 16 points and 7 boards.

Victoria Stewart pitched in 13 points, while Moe Bedford had 11 along with 13 rebounds and Brittany Branum scored in double figures having 10 points.

Henderson State finished the game making 20-of-26 attempts from the field for 36 percent, while OKBU shot 23-of-58 from the field for 39 percent.

Both teams finished the contest making 13-of-20 free throws each.

HSU averages 71.8 points per game this season, shooting 40 percent from the field and 34 percent from 3-point range.

The Reddies also knock down 1.6 more three-pointers per game than opponents this season.

Dulincia Keener leads the team in scoring this season averaging 17.8 points per game, and also averages 8.5 rebounds per contest.

This season, Henderson State is 4-7 in road contests, with victories over Southern Nazarene, Oklahoma Baptist, Northwestern Oklahoma, and Harding.

East Central comes in off a 67-63 road loss at Arkansas Monticello on Saturday, and sport a 6-7 record in the GAC.

The Tigers were led by sophomore Alexa Adair with 13 points, five rebounds and five assists. 

Sophomore Aalyiah Blakely also added 11 points and six rebounds.

East Central finished that contest knocking down 21-of-58 attempts for 36 percent including 9-of-24 from the free throw line, while also shooting 12-of-13 from the charity stripe and out-rebounding UAM 37-to-29.

In the last meeting between Henderson State and East Central, HSU defeated ECU 85-80 in Arkadelphia back on Dec. 3. 

Four players scored in double-figures, as Keener led the Reddies with 22 points with Bedford adding 14 points and dishing out five assists.

Also scoring in double-figures was Lexis Weber with 10 points, as the freshman recorded her first career double-double also pulling in 12 boards.

Henderson finished the game shooting 50 percent from the field knocking down 30-of-60 shots from the field.

HSU also converted on 19-of-26 attempts from the charity stripe.

Adair led East Central with 21 points, while Courtney Cowan had 17 points and Whitney Stotler pitched in 13.

ECU leads the all-time series over HSU 9-4, and the first time the two schools played each other was in the 1983-84 season, as ECU took a 52-45 victory.
